Reality

“True, this is my situation at the moment. Ill look unblinkingly at the reality of it. But I’ll also open my hands to accept willingly whatever a loving father sends.”
                                         -Catherine Wood Marshall

This is the sweet spirit of the children of Kenya Relief. They accept the reality of their situations whether their mother is dying of AIDS, their guardian is in prison, or they are orphaned. They all understand the reality.

But they also willingly submit to a God who may to us seem absent. They wait expectantly for blessings despite their present situations. They at all time have HOPE which in turn becomes FAITH in there Father. We have a lot to learn from these precious children.

Devry told us about a song they sing frequently at the compound that goes a little like this…..

Mauwa sowa sowa
Mauwa sowa sowa

This translates to things are better, things are getting better better.

Amazing.

They sang this song our first night here and it continues to radiate in my heart. Things are getting better. There hope was never lost.

Lord, I pray that I would learn to approach the cross with hope. That I would wait expectantly for you to show up and work. That I would have a childlike spirit that  has faith that things are getting better better.

Time with the kids is priceless. Whether its holding a sleepy child or attempting to play soccer with 30 Kenyan boys. Every moment is better than the next and each day brings on new adventures.

We do a lot of organizing here with Devry. After organizing the clinic, we have now moved to organizing the dorms. We make sure each child has enough clothes, storage space, and a bed of their own. We are still working on getting pillows and shoes that actually fit for most of the kids. I love spending time with Devry and Cass loving on the kids. Devry treats each one like they are her own and it is beautiful to see. She was made for such a time as this and the Lord has prepared her heart for this task.

Last night was movie night so we got to join in with the kids. They laugh at the most unexpectant moments and when this happens the whole room fills with a loud roar. It makes my heart smile.

One of the most special moments yesterday was getting to give Peter his first pair of clothes. He is an orphan who just came to the compound that day. He was scared, unsure, and very shy. I got to hold his hand through each step and give him his first clothes and shoes of his own. After trying on all the clothes, I looked at him and said “yours”. He had a slight smile emerge and at that moment it seemed like the world had stopped.

I already know I cant leave this place. It stole my heart 2 years ago and continues to steal it day by day. I have never been happier. My heart explodes in thankfulness to a Father who can’t stop pursuing me!
