Stella
Goodmorning! Last night I had the privilege of getting dinner with Stella. She is a dear friend of Morgan Butler (a friend from huntsville) and I was able to hook up with her through facebook. It was such a joy to spend the evening with her, and very eye opening as well.
Stella is a compassion child who has been sponsored for 18 years by a girl from Seattle. She was able to go to college because of the support from compassion and has a degree in finance. Her story was beautiful, and I would love to share a couple things about her life.
She was raised in the slums with her mom and dad and 5 brothers and sisters. Her dad died in 1995, so the rest of her childhood she was brought up only by her mom. She is the only sibling who had a compassion sponsor and was able to go to college.
She told us that her sponsor meant so much to her and she so enjoyed reading the letters from her. It was very shocking to hear that her sponsor was the first person to every tell her she loved her. She said those words are not popular in Kenyan culture.
It was very encouraging to see how much the letters meant to her while she was growing up because I too sponsor a little boy named Benson who lives in Kenya. Although I am sad to say I will not be able to meet him, I now know how much the letters mean to these children.
Stella was an unbelievable girl with a big heart.... she loves Jesus so much and gives all the glory to him. It was a wonderful night of fellowship and good food!
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
