Today was a good day! I wanted to share some of my favorite memories from today:
1. I got to watch an HIV test being done. The little boys name was Klein and he was new to the orphanage. He had to get his finger pricked twice because Evarlyn could not get enough blood out. He was so brave and had such a contagious smile even though he was going through so much pain. When he found out the test was negative.... Evarlyn turned to me and said... "he is so happy!" It brought tears to my eyes as I watched him look at the test results and smile.
2. Hearing my sweet class recite "Jesus Loves Me" from memory. I only taught them last week and they already know it perfectly! So beautiful to see there face light up when they tell me how much Jesus loves them.
3. Showing Evarlyn a picture of my parents and her saying, "Wow, your dad is so young and your mom so beautiful." (now dont get a big head dad) You see here the normal age for a 21 year olds dad would be around 72. Crazy huh?
4. I met this beautiful girl today named Esther. This doll looked up at me during a game (we play several games outside before lunch to get there energy out) and said, "Hi MOM!" Talk about tugging at a girls heart. The Lord showed me what genuine love looks like through these sweet brown eyes.
5. I was amazed to learn how much strength it takes women to carry good on there heads. I have to admit, I thought I had pretty good balance, but after trying to balance those bans on my head I was humbled. To carry 10 + pounds on your head for over 5 km takes real strength, that only comes from the deepest part of your being. It was amazing to learn all that these women endure on a daily basis. True heros in my eyes.
"Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace." -Ephesians 4:2-3
