Luxury

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”  -Mark 12:30

As the end of my trip is slowly approaching it makes me think of how blessed I am. One of the big things I have learned about the people of Kenya is that many things that are necessities for us are luxuries for them. Here are a couple…..

1.     Running water is a luxury… most everyone doesn’t have it
2.     Silver ware is not needed, everyone uses there hands
3.     Bottled water is a big luxury… usually only visitors use it.
4.     Any form of transportation besides walking is a huge luxury/blessing
5.     Washing machines are almost unheard of in Kenya making it a huge luxury
6.     Having a pair of functional shoes is a luxury
7.     Most everyone’s clothes do not fit right so having proper clothes is a huge luxury
8.     Braces are so expensive to the people of Kenya… around 6,000 shillings, which equals around $700. (crazy to think of the difference in prices)
9.     Toys are a luxury
1.    Crayons brighten every kids day and you can tell it is a big luxury
1.    Most kids in Kenya don’t have a living mother or father who provides proper emotional growth. Having someone to hold them and hug them is a luxury.
1.   Getting told they are loved is a big deal to every child here… it brightens their whole appearance
1.     Going to high school is a luxury because it is very expensive.

It is amazing to think of all these things are luxuries because I grew up thinking they were necessities. The Lord is really revealing to me how blessed I am and how much his people are in need of a savior. Thank you Lord for providing a safe place for all of us to rest… you are truly amazing!

I told one of the orphans named Mary that we were leaving in a couple days and she turned to me and said "no don't go!" It was one of my favorite quotes from the day! How will I be able to leave these babies!
