Once Upon A Time
I write today because somehow and someway it frees my heart. Writing allows me to remind myself of what is important. So today I write for me. For my heart to rest easy in the fathers arms. The arms that caught me 21 years ago and will keep catching me when I fall. So here it goes. A way to let everything go and somehow.... be free!
A girl is taught a lot of things growing up. She is taught that one day she will have a fairytale. That one day Prince Charming will come to save her and take her away on his white horse. She is taught that daddy thinks she looks pretty with mommy's make-up on and that one day she will grow up to be as beautiful as mommy. She is taught that safety is found in holding daddy's hand, and that in a rain storm he will be there to rock her to sleep. She images life as a story book and falls in love with everything around her. She is taught to be lady-like always and to never let a boy speak down to her. She is taught that she is a princess.
Then this little girl grows up... and suddenly this fairytale is not exactly what she thought it would be. She wakes up with more zits then she thought possible. She is taught that skinny girls are the prettiest girls. Boys steal her innocence in exchange for a compliment. She falls in love with the world. She finds her identity in how many boys look at her this week. She is consumed. Consumed with judgement, pride, greed, and selfishness. She feels like a failure. She is too cool for dad and fights with mom. She realizes that reality is not glamorous. Her fairytale has become a nightmare.
This is the fairytale that most adolescents face.........
When did we loose our "little girl" mindset? Why can't we have the fairytale ending like in the storybooks?
Here is the truth. Our life is a fairytale. We have a Prince who is fighting to save us. The problem is we are not ready to be found. We flee from this Prince because we are consumed with our castle. The castle we built on the world's standard. So I am here to share this good news. That YES, you will have your fairytale. That your Prince is ready to save you and will show up on a white horse. We do have a father who thinks we look pretty regardless of what the world says. He tells us, "You are beautiful, and you are becoming more beautiful as your grow closer and closer to me." The safest place in the world is holding our father's hand, and he continually catches us when we fall. Our life is a storybook.... it's called the bible. It is the world's best seller. This fairytale you dreamed of is our reality because of a man who loved us enough to sacrifice his life. We are living in a dream, and the best part is we don't ever have to wake up.
So hold onto that fairytale girls and keep your eyes open. Because your Prince Charming is on his way......
Are you ready to be found?
Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost
